YELLOW: 6:1 student: coach

  1. Monday 2:30-4pm
  2. Wednesday 2:30-4pm
  3. Friday 2:30-4pm
  4. Friday 4-6pm
  • Hand-eye coordination – catching balls, rolling, throwing etc.
  • Basic introduction to ground strokes – correct grips, follow through.
  • Simple feeding drills.
  • Rules of the game and an introduction to scoring and court etiquette.
  • Fun, tennis-related games that promote and enhance motor-neural skills.

GREEN: 4:1 student: coach

  1. Monday 4-5:30pm
  2. Wednesday 5-7pm
  • Can rally from service line with coaching assistance.
  • Introduction to simple fun games with simplistic scoring.
  • Emphasis on balance, contact and follow through on ground strokes.
  • Learning how to block or catch on volleys. May still be using forehand grip a little bit on volleys, but aware of correct grip.
  • Learning to throw balls to develop shoulder rotation on serves and smashes.
  • Short, fun fitness endings – relay races etc.

RED: 4:1 student: coach

  1. Monday 5:30-7pm
  2. Tuesday 4-5:30pm
  3. Thursday 4-5:30pm
  • Learning how to score and play points with coach assistance.
  • Can rally with some assistance from coach.
  • Understands and uses a loop in backswing and has correct grips and follow through on groundstrokes.
  • Uses split-step on volleys; learning how to smash.
  • Simple technique on service motion.
  • Can do basic fitness drills.

BLUE: 4:1 student: coach

  1. Tuesday 5:30-7pm
  2. Thursday 5:30-7pm
  3. Thursday 4-6pm Bowen Road group.
  4. Saturday 12-3pm
  • Interested in playing tournaments in the future.
  • Positive and motivated to learn.
  • Has the ability to use topspin with accuracy and consistency on groundstrokes.
  • Beginning to develop the ability to slice the ball with confidence.
  • Understands, and is trying to use the correct continental grips for smashes, volleys and serves.
  • Can hit slice and flat serves.
  • Can score and play matches and points.
  • Has a good level of fitness.

BLACK: 4:1 student: coach

  1. OTR Tuesday group – HKTC from 5:30-7pm.
  2. OTR Thursday group – HKTC from 5:30-7pm.
  3. OTR Friday group – HKTC from 6-8pm.
  • Looking to play competitive tennis on a regular basis.
  • Is self-motivated.
  • Has the ability to use slice, topspin and flat shots with precision and consistency.
  • Can volley, smash and serve with correct continental grips.
  • Can hit slice, topspin and flat serves.
  • Understands how to construct points.
  • Has an excellent level of fitness.


INVITATIONAL: 5:1 student: coach

  1. OTR Invitational Monday group – Aberdeen from 4-7pm.
  2. OTR Invitational Wednesday group – Aberdeen from 4-7pm.

Court size: Variable
Tennis ball: Red ball (25 per cent compression)
Typical age: 4-6 years

I am able to:

 

  • Run in different directions and be spatially aware
  • Start activities from a ready position
  • Put the ball in play with a throw or underarm serve
  • Hit a ball over the net on forehand and backhand
  • Volley a ball over the net with a simple blocking action
  • Follow instructions and cooperate with others.


You are ready to move on to Red Stage MLC Tennis Hot Shots!

There are a number of program options at this stage, including the official Launch Pad program Wilson Pee Wee tennis.

Recommended racquet size: 21–23 inches
Court size: 3m by 8m or 6m by 11m
Tennis ball: Red ball (25 per cent compression)
Typical age: 5–8 years

I am able to:

 

  • Move quickly in different directions and stop on balance
  • Direct the serve over the net using an underarm or overarm serve
  • Use a low to high action on both forehand and backhand
  • Keep the ball in play for 10–15 shots when rallying with a partner make a simple approach and Volley with a short forward movement
  • Listen actively to instructions and feedback
  • Enjoy competition in a variety of formats.

 


You are ready to move on to Orange Stage MLC Tennis Hot Shots!

Recommended racquet size: 23–25 inches
Court size: 8m by 18m (3/4 court)
Tennis ball: Orange ball (50 per cent compression)
Typical age: 8–10 years

I am able to:

 

  • Maintain balance during dynamic movements
  • Serve with a balanced and rhythmical service action
  • Keep the ball in play for 10–15 shots when rallying with a partner
  • Effectively use spin in a groundstroke rally situation
  • Control the direction of a volley and overhead
  • Understand the concept of fair play and the main rules of the game
  • Enjoy competition in a variety of formats.

Court size: Full court
Tennis ball:Green ball (75 per cent compression)
Typical age: 10–12 years

I am able to:

 

  • React quickly and adapt footwork and movement patterns
  • Keep correct posture and maintain body balance
  • Differentiate speed and spin on first and second serves
  • Rally crosscourt for 10–15 shots varying height, depth, speed and spin
  • Use approach, drive volley, volley and overhead in an offensive way
  • Identify game style (strengths and weaknesses)
  • Enjoy competition in a variety of formats.
